Ripe white peach and lychee on the nose and luscious palate are nicely complemented by accents of smoky black tea and piquant peach kernel. A silken feel and chalky sense of stone suffusion offer fascinating, site-typical contrast, leading to a lingering finish that harbors a hint of Winningen-typical anise and manages to deliver a surprising degree of sheer refreshment for a Riesling so unusually low in acidity. (For reasons explained in my coverage of this estate’s 2014s, the label here refers to Laubach in large script solely via the initial “L,” whereas “Terroir Laubach” – as does “GG” elsewhere on the label – appears below that in minuscule print. The name in fact refers to a specific geological formation that is unusually high in active calcaire for the Mosel.)

This very concentrated wine makes you feel that you are floating on the clouds that hang in the Mosel Valley before and during the harvest. There\'s plenty of acidity in here, but you barely feel it directly, and once you sink into the depths of the finish it\'s difficult to climb out again. Drink now and for some decades to come.
Savoury nose, almost smells of roast beef and cabbage. Then it's unexpectedly sweet on the palate. Bit of a conundrum. Lacks the freshness of the Röttgen. But it certainly socks it to the taster! A bit alcoholic on the end. (JR)
