10 months in oak – 20% new French and 20% new American. Purplish with a clear rim. Tight, high toned, slightly rank on the nose. But actually lovely ripe, sweet fruit on the palate. Very polished. Very accomplished winemaking. (JR)

The hamlet of Marananga lies very close to the centre of the Barossa Valley floor – slightly to the north and west, where warm dry conditions and rich red soils provide the backbone to some of the region’s best known wines. TA 6.2 g/l, pH 3.6. 12 months in 20% new French oak, 30% 1-year-old French oak, 20% new American oak, 30% 1-year-old American oak (all hogsheads). More meaty than the Coonawarra and Kalimna Shirazes. Lovely complex aroma, dark fruit, orange, graphite, spice. Then there's that same meatiness on the palate. Complex. Dry fine tannins, less plush and more structured than than Bins 28 and 128. I might even have thought it had some Cabernet in it. Blackcurrant fruit, cedar, upright. More elegant. (JH)
Very deep garnet-purple in color, the 2011 Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz starts off a little closed around the pure, blackberry aromas dotted with hints of cedar, dried thyme, pepper and fertile loam. The full-bodied palate opens up to show a nice richness of vibrant, youthful fruit supported by firm, grainy tannins and enlivening acid. It finishes long. Drink it now to 2021+.
