(bottled in August of 2005) Bright red-ruby. Pure, precise, extremely deep aromas of raspberry and minerals; another dimension here. A huge, mouthfilling wine that conveys an impression of great volume without any excess weight. This takes over the palate in a grand cru way. Extremely youthful and perhaps already beginning to shut down. Finishes with huge but silky tannins and palate-staining persistence. This extraordinarily rich wine will need at least a decade of aging to reveal its full potential.

Good ruby-red. Knockout nose combines black and red fruits, violet, baking spices and pepper; extremely subtle and complex. Bright, fine-grained and suave, with more lift than the Pezerolles. This has real grand cru palate presence, volume and definition of flavor. Finishes with noble tannins and palate-staining persistence. Very classy Pommard.
Cask sample. Very deep crimson. Almost voluptuous and certainly intriguing and layered on the nose. Real power and stonking concentration. A certain silkiness, too. Very serious. Very, very fine and no hole anywhere in the experience. Lovely coverage of the palate. (JR)

Volnay’s Domaine de Montille is one of the most historic in the Côte d’Or. Founded in 1730, the property remains family-owned and run, with Etienne de Montille – the ninth generation – at the helm today.
