The 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos des Fôrets-Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a vibrant nose with black cherries, briary, crushed rock and violet hints that continue to impart a Vosne-like personality. The palate is well balanced quite grippy, a slight torrefactory element here, hints of singed leather and black truffle towards the finish where it just loses a little delineation, a bit smudged compared to the 2017. Tasted at the Domaine de L’Arlot tasting at La Cabotte in London.

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Fôrets Saint-Georges 1er Cru has quite a reduced nose that obscures some of the terroir expression, though that should lift with time. The palate is medium-bodied with rather chewy tannins, spicy and slightly East Asian in style that detracts from typicité on the finish. I've had better bottles than this. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
Mid garnet. Light appetising toastiness on the wonderfully perfumed nose with some violets too. Mouth-filling. Really lovely and sumptuous. Great medium weight and balance. So pretty! Though the tannins are very much in the background to the fruit. Just light dryness on the end. Amazingly approachable! I wonder whether it will go into its shell? I’ll assume not with my drink dates. (JR)
Marked toffee oak, overlayed on ripe, mixed black fruit. Intense and spicy, this is more in a rich than an elegant vein. Fair length. (TJ)
