Punteggio 96/100 · Da bere 2025-2030, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Nov 2025

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is very showy today. Silky contours wrap around a core of inky dark red/purplish fruit, pomegranate, spice and espresso. This has aged quite gracefully. The 2015 has lost some of its youthful exuberance and has begun to soften. I would prefer to drink it over the next handful of years, although it will likely keep beyond that.

The 2015 Scarecrow is stunning. Powerful and intense, but with more detail than it has shown in the past, the 2015 is positively dazzling. Super-ripe red cherry, pomegranate, mint, blood orange and exotic spice infuse this deep, resonant Cabernet Sauvignon. Over the years, winemaker Celia Welch has dialed back the oak by giving the wine less time in barrel and lowering toast levels, while moving towards dry farming in the vineyard. Those are some of the choices that have resulted in a truly epic Scarecrow. (AG) 98+

The inky colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is a beauty that shows a richer, more masculine, structured style compared to the 2014. Blackcurrants, smoked herbs, dark chocolate, and graphite notes all emerge from this power packed, rich, full-bodied beauty that has sweet tannin and a great finish. This is a heavenly bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon that comes from some of the oldest vines in the valley, in the J.J. Cohn Vineyard on the western side of Rutherford. I’d hide bottles for at least 3-4 years and it’s going to shine for 20-25+ years.

Scarecrow

Scarecrow shot to fame with its debut 2003 vintage. The wine, named after the The Wizard of Oz character, is made exclusively from grapes from the J. J. Cohn vineyard in Napa’s Rutherford. Scarecrow is owned by Bret Lopez (J. J. Cohn’s grandson) and is very much a rarity in Napa.
