Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2021-2030, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, May 2021

Scents of crushed stone, dried herbs and mixed berries appear on the nose of the 2018 Cornas Les Grands Mûriers. Blended from several parcels, it's a classic rendering of the appellation, with bloody, beefy notes, a sense of warm sunshine juxtaposed against granitic coolness in a medium to full-bodied wine and a long finish marked by soft, dusty tannins. Drink it over the next decade.

Deep, youthful violet. High-pitched, smoke-accented aromas of blackberry, cherry pie and pungent flowers are complemented by a suave suggestion of exotic spices. Sappy, pliant and alluringly sweet, offering palate-staining black and blue fruit, licorice and spicecake flavors and a subtle hint of smoky bacon. Finishes sweet, focused and very long, displaying well-delineated mineral and floral pastille notes and smooth, harmonious tannins. This a distinctly elegant rendition of Cornas. 15% new oak.

From a mix of granite and limestone soils, the 2018 Cornas Les Grands Mûriers is a plump, opulent effort that brings serious sex appeal in its blueberries, bloody meat, game, licorice, and graphite aromas and flavors. With full-bodied richness, a plush, rounded texture, and sweet tannins, it's going to drink nicely right out of the gate yet also cruise for 10-12 years. This tiny Northern Rhône estate continues to produce a colossal lineup of wines. While they pull from top estate terroirs around Hermitage and the Northern Rhône, they also have a large négoçiant line that’s loaded with values.

100% Syrah. Cask sample. Tasted blind. Vegetal notes leave this with a sense of underripeness, and the palate seems to lack mid-frequency weight. Perhaps picked a bit too early? (RH)
