Matching the 2018 and the second perfect wine I've tasted from the Third Twin releases, the 2021 Nuestra Senora Del Tercer Gemelo is based on 57% Mourvèdre, 14% each of Grenache, Graciano, and Syrah, with the final 1% Viognier. It was fermented with one-third whole clusters and spent 31 months in 41% new French oak. Sensational red and black fruits, graphite, sandalwood, pepper, and even some floral, exotic notes all give way to a full-bodied, incredibly concentrated, powerful red that has flawless tannins, a seamless, multi-dimensional mouthfeel, no hard edges, and a monster of a finish. This beauty marries sensational richness and depth with awesome purity, perfect balance, and remarkable complexity. It’s going to blow you away any time over the coming two decades.

The 2021 Nuestra Senora Del Tercer Gemelo was fermented with 33% whole clusters and spent 31 months in 41% new French oak. Its Mourvèdre-dominated cépage is evident on the nose, leading with rich, layered red and black-fruited aromas framed by dried flower, bramble and garrigue accents with peppery, meaty nuances. The palate is formidably rich and polished without going entirely over the top, feeling gently burnished and guided rather than overtly sanded and perfected. As is common in this lineup, the finish is layered, expansive and chocolate-tinged. With increased time in the glass, it displays ethanol astringency and increasingly new-oak-derived aromas, which are hard to get past in terms of its ultimate harmony. While there is no getting around the impressive textures and seductive richness these wines deliver, these traits are best capitalized on within the first decade before the alcohol levels become unavoidably perceptible.
