The 2015 Aglianico Serra Pedace Vineyard has a deep magenta core that's almost opaque in the glass and offers up hints of volatility with plum reduction, black cherry and a firm element of turned earth and roasted lavender. Full-bodied and with 15% alcohol, the wine shows the rich tannic structure of the variety and will remain food-friendly for more than a decade as the wine dries out my gumline with an iron essence. Concluding with a long-lingering finish, you'll want to have this with food and open after a few more years of cellar aging. The wine rested for 44 months in terracotta amphorae and neutral French oak barrels. Just under 4,700 bottles were produced.

The 2015 Aglianico Serra Pedace Vineyard is also outstanding, although it needs at least 5-7 years of bottle age to integrate its masses of tannins. A complex nose of red and black fruits, sandalwood, and incense define the nose, and it’s medium to full-bodied on the palate, with mouth-searing amounts of tannins. It’s somehow still balanced, though, and I do think it will come together, but patience will be a virtue.
