The 2017 Syrah Halcon Vineyard shows all of the intensity and drive that is typical of this Yorkville Highlands site, along with the textural richness that is such a signature of the Myriad Syrahs. Dried herbs, lavender, earthiness, spice and dark-fleshed fruits all develop with a bit of aeration. The inclusion of 50% whole clusters adds striking floral and savory character. Dense and packed with real personality, the 2017 has a ton to offer. All it needs is a bit of bottle age.

From a Grand Cru site in Mendocino, the 2017 Syrah Halcon Vineyard is another Côte Rôtie look-alike that delivers the goods. This totally sensational Syrah reveals a ruby/plum color, a rocking bouquet of black raspberries, crushed flowers, blood orange, and California bay leaf to go with a seamless, rounded, medium to full-bodied style on the palate. It shows more floral and violets notes with time in the glass, has ample ripe tannins, integrated acidity, and a great finish. It’s a singular, gorgeous wine, and is my favorite in the lineup. It needs 2-3 years bottle age and should see its 20th birthday in fine form.
