Good bright medium red. Slightly reduced aromas of musky redcurrant, cherry and tobacco; I wanted more treble tones. Supple and vinous, but showing a lightly tart edge to its red fruit flavors. A wine of limited texture and nuance, suggesting modest flavor development. Finishes with dusty tannins.

The 2013 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a tightly wound marine-influenced bouquet with touches of seaweed and iodine infusing the carapace of dense black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, salted licorice and a fine grippy finish. That salinity continues right to the end that feels more structured than I expected. It just needs to evolve a touch more persistence in the mouth but I like the style, the breeding of this Echézeaux, even if it does not quite match some of its peers.
Dark crimson. Sweet and rich on the nose. Confident and sleek even if not very subtle. (JR)

Although the Bichot family settled in the region in 1350, Albert Bichot was founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot. Today the producer is one of Burgundy’s most respected, making wines from both its own vineyards and with purchased fruit.
