Medium red, a bit less saturated than the Clos Saint-Jacques. Ripe but closed on the nose, with some oak showing today. Sweet, dense and thick in the mouth, but a bit less expressive today than the CSJ, hinting at spicy red berries. Is the acidity here a bit less ripe than that of the CSJ or is this just more backward? Finishes with slightly dusty, oak-influenced tannins. A bit awkward today and difficult to taste: this will need six or seven years of patience. Incidentally, Fourrier compares 2004 to 2001 and believes that the majority of his 2004s will shut down in bottle in the near future.

Good medium red-ruby color. Sappy aromas of currant, cherry, raspberry and minerals. Sweet on entry, then pungently mineral in the middle, with terrific grip and structure. Comes across as sweeter than the Clos Saint-Jacques today. Finishes with noble, fine-grained tannins and superb breadth and class, not to mention outstanding length.
