The 2014 Siran has a restrained but classy bouquet. Sage, graphite-tinged black fruit, and hints of pressed flowers unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, quite finely tuned with soy-tinged red fruit. It never develops a memorable finish, yet I appreciate the control and focus, staying within the limitations of the growing season and benefitting from it. Tasted blind. Deep garnet. Oaky sweetness, plus sweet dark fruit and just slightly leafy. Very firm tannins but they add to the freshness. Needs time. GV (JH)
The 2014 Siran has a fresh nose with mint, fennel and sage infusing the black fruit. It gains delineation with time, that mint note ebbing away. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin. There is a pleasant symmetry here, understated and linear, but nicely focused with a tensile, structured finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. In the south of Margaux, this property has 36 hectares of vines. There’s an unusually large proportion of Petit Verdot (13%) in the vineyard, something which the team feels adds finesse, concentration and a spicy finish to the wine.
