The 2013 Côte de Nuits-Villages is exceptionally beautiful. Impeccable in its balance and class, the Côte de Nuits-Villages is the hidden gem in this range from one of Burgundy's most cultish growers. This is a decidedly big vintage for the Côte de Nuits-Villages, yet all the elements are in the right place. Dark red cherry, licorice and new leather are some of the notes that punctuate the super-expressive finish.

Medium red. Aromas of dark chocolate, menthol and licorice, plus a suggestion of leathery rusticity. Nicely rich for the appellation and the year, with a sappy quality to the crushed black fruit and bitter chocolate oak flavors. An edge of acidity and some unabsorbed CO2 give this wine a slightly bitter edge in the early going.
The 2013 Côtes de Nuits Villages has a broody bouquet with dusky blackberry and boysenberry fruit interwoven with limestone minerals. The palate is very pure with supple tannins, bountiful energy and a dash of orange sorbet and quince on the focused, very harmonious finish. This will delight over several years.
25% new oak. Quite high up the slope above Brochon. Rich and energetic. Racy and polished. Lip smacking. Lots of punch. (JR)
