Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2018-2040, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Nov 2016

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a well defined and quite earthy bouquet, plenty of sous-bois character here, gently unfolding in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit, fine tannins and a harmonious, caressing finish that demonstrates assiduous use of new oak. Everything just seems to effortless in this delightful Charmes-Chambertin from Armand Rousseau. Tasted September 2016.

An explosive, exuberant bouquet makes a strong first impression in the 2013 Charmes-Chambertin. Those signatures follow onto the palate, where the Charmes is quite opulent. Dark cherries, plums, spices and new leather blossom in a decidedly racy, supple Charmes that should drink well with minimal cellaring.

Great energy and verve on the nose, but this sample is rather volatile. Dry, earthy palate, though there’s characteristic fruit underneath. Unclear prognosis on this evidence. (AH)

(two-thirds Mazoyères and one-third Charmes; aging entirely in one-year-old barrels): Healthy dark red. Ripe aromas of blueberry and violet. Juicy and tight, offering lovely lift to the flavors of sappy dark fruits, animal fur and espresso. Ultimately silky in texture but showing less density today than the Cazetiers. Finishes brisk and persistent.
