Deeper yellow to gold color here. This has a rich, peach and grilled-quince nose with notes of dried banana, too. The palate has honeyed quince and a gently grippy edge to the finish. A blend of equal parts marsanne and roussanne. Drink now.

Also terrific, the tiny production 2016 Ermitage Le Reverdy Blanc is a blend of 80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne brought up in demi-muids. It gives up more honeyed marmalade, wood smoke, caramelized citrus and crushed rocks aromatics. Rich, unctuous and concentrated on the palate, with gorgeous purity, it has building structure, and a great, great finish. It’s up with the crème de la crème of the vintage and should not be missed. Give bottles a year or so and enjoy over the following two decades. The only downside to these latest releases from Ferraton? They’re made in tiny quantities and there’s just not enough to go around. For readers who don’t know, this estate is managed by Michel Chapoutier, yet they have their own vineyard sources and winemaking team.
The 2016 Ermitage Le Reverdy Blanc is a 50-50 blend of Roussanne and Marsanne sourced from Le Méal and Les Beaumes. Despite ripe scents of honey and grilled pineapple, this medium to full-bodied wine is firm and tight on the palate, with a slightly bitter edge to the finish.
