Vivid ruby. Powerful, mineral-accented aromas of candied red and blue fruits, potpourri and licorice. Chewy, tightly focused black raspberry and boysenberry flavors show a suave floral quality and building spice character. This powerful yet energetic pinot finishes long and penetrating, with intense finishing spiciness; supple tannins sneak in late to add shape and grip.

Dark red cherry, smoke, tobacco, incense and game all rush from the glass. There is an intensity and energy in the 2012 that is impossible to miss. The 2012 stands out for its complexity and real sense of character. Rose petal, hard candy, menthol and wild flowers linger on the close.

Paul Hobbs is one of California wine’s biggest names. Twice named Wine Personality of the Year by Robert Parker, he joined Robert Mondavi in 1977, worked at Opus One and Simi before setting up his eponymous winery in 1991.
