Da bere 0-0, Neal Martin, Mar 2024

The 2014 Guiraud has a fresh mango and pineapple-scented nose, missing the delineation and complexity of the best wines in the flight of Sauternes. The palate is well balanced with a tangy entry, a little more evolved juxtaposed against its peers and later showing perhaps some TCA. There's a good Sauternes here, just not this bottle. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

Tasted blind. Mid gold. Not as complex as many of the 2014s, more citrus/mandarine than botrytis-like aromas. Broad and a bit flat on the palate though it is deep and long and has enough acidity to balance. (JH)

Composed of 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc, the pale lemon-gold colored 2014 Guiraud opens with notes of honeyed apricots, lemon marmalade and beeswax followed by touches of musk perfume and lightly browned toast. The palate is wonderfully refreshing with plenty of zippy citrus fruit and a long perfumed finish.

65% Sémillon , 35% Sauvignon Blanc. Deep greenish coppery colour. Neat and sweet but much edgier and less complete than the 2015. Finishes quite dry. A Sauternes for foie gras? (JR)
