The 2013 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard is spicy, moderately tannic and slightly austere, but impressive, and will probably open up and expand over the next few years. Drink now-2026.

The 2013 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard is one of the more savory wines in this range. Sage, tobacco, cedar, licorice and blueberry jam are some of the signatures. Ample and broad in its shape, the 2013 exudes depth. As good as it is today, the 2013 is going to require at least a few years in bottle to fully come together. The inclusion of 10% stems adds nuance, but the Hyde remains a decidedly virile, masculine Pinot.
A huge, powerful wine, the 2013 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard hits the palate with notable intensity. Game, smoke, grilled herbs, licorice and blue/purplish fruit flesh out over time. Savory, dense and at times quite wild, the Hyde is starkly different in style from the other Pinots in this range. Then again, that is Carneros.

Paul Hobbs is one of California wine’s biggest names. Twice named Wine Personality of the Year by Robert Parker, he joined Robert Mondavi in 1977, worked at Opus One and Simi before setting up his eponymous winery in 1991.
