The 2012 Lafleur continues to show well in bottle. Contrasted directly against the 2011, this has just a notch more brightness and energy with blackberry and light iodine scents, just a touch of black truffle an that hint of lavender that only emerges with time in the glass. The palate is refined and focused with insistent grip, plenty of cedar and tobacco intertwined with the black fruit and a persistent saline finish that expresses more Cabernet Franc than Merlot. Wonderful. Tasted from ex-château magnum at Kate & Kon's 40-Year vertical in Austria.

The 2012 Lafleur is high-toned on the nose with liquorice and blueberry scents, lavender oil and wild heather. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy, red berry fruit laced with brown spices, cracked black pepper, cedar and tobacco, almost dovetailing into a Médoc-like finish. This is one of the few Pomerols that require further time in bottle. Tasted blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting.
Tasted blind. Rich and sweet but floral and pretty evolved. Lovely and flattering now but does it promise a serious, long-term future. (JR)

The Société Civile du Ch. Lafleur is the collective name for the Guinaudeau family’s wines and estates. These are some of the Right Bank’s most famous wines, including Ch. Lafleur and Les Pensées in Pomerol, along with Les Perrières, Les Champs Libres and Ch. Grand Village in Fronsac.
