The 2013 Lafleur is probably near the top of the tree as one of the worst vintages in recent years. To be frank, it is found lacking compared to, say, the 2014. With light earthy scents, the nose lacks the amplitude and complexity that you expect from this Pomerol. The palate is balanced and clean with no signs of greenness, yet it does not offer anything near the nuance or concentration that one expects. It has an easy-drinking and affable nature but is an atypically early-drinking Lafleur. Tasted from ex-château magnum at Kate & Kon's 40-Year vertical in Austria.

The 2013 Lafleur has an almost Left Bank nose: tobacco and graphite scents misleading you towards perhaps Saint-Julien! At least there is decent freshness. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, light for Lafleur but well-balanced with an attractive, harmonious and peppery finish. This Pomerol ends on a high note, though it will never be regarded as a "great Lafleur". Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On tasting.
Shaded garnet. Opulent, fully ripe, hedonistic nose. Sweet start and no sign of 2013's shortcomings. A little note of coffee perhaps (which is very unusual in 2013!) and very 'cashmere' tannins and great length. Tannins well managed and no sign of any underripeness. Glorious finish. Soothing and just what you want from a tip-top Pomerol. Unscathed by 2013's tribulations? (JR)
Silky, melted tannins, edges of smoked caramel, cold ash and woodsmoke. Has a serious dark fruited edge to it, blackberry and cassis that is unusual in the vintage, with floral curls. You could drink this now, but here you feel it is holding things back, crouched for a further reveal in a few years time. Stands out in this lineup, and is a rare 2013 in its ability to hold its line, with grip and length. 50% new oak.

The Société Civile du Ch. Lafleur is the collective name for the Guinaudeau family’s wines and estates. These are some of the Right Bank’s most famous wines, including Ch. Lafleur and Les Pensées in Pomerol, along with Les Perrières, Les Champs Libres and Ch. Grand Village in Fronsac.
