55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot. Aged 12 months in barrel and amphorae (10%). Garnet hue. Just beginning to open to cherry and dark-fruit notes. Juicy and smooth on the palate with innate freshness. Fine tannic frame. Already shows a certain charm. (JL)

The 2019 La Louvière has a perfumed bouquet with redcurrant, raspberry and light earthy scents. The oak here is neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite sappy and cohesive with a lingering, lightly peppered finish. Delicious. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

Tasted blind. Mid gold. Some oak and Sémillon richness on the nose. Be warned if you don’t like oak but this wine is fun and distinctively bordeaux as opposed to A N Other Sauvignon. Just a little heat on the end worries me a bit. (JR)

Bottled under Diam 30, the 2019 La Louvière delivers a rich bouquet of ripe black fruits, charcoal, forest floor, black truffle and smoke. Medium to full-bodied, broad and enveloping, it's a fleshy, layered wine with an ample core of fruit, lively acids and plenty of ripe tannin that asserts itself on the finish. With a few years' bottle age, this will make for dramatic drinking.

Wine has been made at this estate since the 1300s, but its modern history begins when the Lurton family purchased it in 1965. The property was in disrepair, but the Lurtons have restored the château, winery and vineyards.
