Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Richebourg 2011 has a more extravagant, bold, multilayered bouquet with blackberry, wild strawberry, hints of undergrowth and light marine influences coming in to play: very complex. The palate still has some unresolved oak on the entry, but there is great tension and vibrancy here, the tannins fine and lending this great tension. I would not broach a bottle now because there is so much to give in the future. Just like in the blind Amoureuses tasting in Holland, here Bichot proves itself as one of the top-flight producers. Bravo!

Much like the Grands Echézeaux, this is intensely floral with a cool and highly restrained nose of red berries, spice and stone scents. There is excellent volume and energy to the big-bodied, intense and overtly muscular flavors that terminate in a mineral-driven, dusty and beautifully long finish. This doesn't offer the same power that the Grands Echézeaux does but this is finer and the length simply doesn't quit. A first-class beauty that despite the muscle I would describe as a Richebourg of elegance and refinement.

Although the Bichot family settled in the region in 1350, Albert Bichot was founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot. Today the producer is one of Burgundy’s most respected, making wines from both its own vineyards and with purchased fruit.
