Bright, dark red. Less noble on the nose than the Fuées, offering slightly smoky scents of redcurrant, raspberry, coffee and meaty reduction. At once silky and juicy but without quite the dimension or early sex appeal of the Fuées. Backward and classic but I wanted a bit more sucrosité for Amoureuses. Finishes with dusty, slightly granular tannins and very good persistence.
A wonderfully spicy, warm and mildly exotic nose of black fruit, sandalwood and violet aromas complements the round, complex and supple flavors that merge into the dusty, sweet and impressively long finish. There is plenty of nervosité and I quite like the silky texture but the mid-palate density isn’t quite as good here as either that of the Fuées or the Combe d’Orveau. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
