Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2015-2025, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Feb 2015

Deeper in color than the Celestins, as well as more backward, austere and rough around the edges, the 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Marie Beurrier has an edgy, focused feel in its darker currant, black cherry, leather and bouquet garni-like bouquet. This flows to a medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated Chateauneuf du Pape that has high acidity, still noticeable tannin and a firm finish. While this lacks the depth and richness found in the Celestins, and the acidity will be something to watch, I think it will be a long-lived effort that will still be drinking nicely in 2025.

Deep red. Very fresh garrigue-accented strawberry and raspberry preserve aromas, with a hint of licorice. Sweet and silky in texture, with energetic red berry and bitter cherry flavors, fine-grained tannins and an explosively sweet, focused finish. Leads with its brightness and sweetness.

Bright ruby. Spicy and energetic on the nose and palate, offering lively red fruit aromas and flavors that become smokier and more fragrant with air. Deeper dark berry qualities come up on the back end and linger on the very long, sappy, alluringly sweet finish. This wine is still very young but there's a lot of appealing, surprisingly open-knit fruit on display today.

Vivid ruby. Sexy aromas of raspberry and cherry, with serious floral intensity and a slightly high-toned quality. Sappy, penetrating red fruit and candied floral flavors show impressive depth but come off as graceful. Rich but precise, with intriguing spice and herb notes on the finish.

This very old-school property makes the most unique Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wines are fantastically complex and Boneauu made it as it would have been produced 100 years ago in the commune, using methods that familiar to any of the 11 generations of vignerons in his family who preceded him.
