The 1990 Cornas is far better. A gorgeous nose offers a mélange of red and black fruit, melted tar, garrigue and seaweed, gaining complexity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, plenty of white pepper and clove notes and hints of blood orange towards the refined and effortless finish. What a glorious Cornas this is at 35 years of age!

Bacon fat – smoky nose. Quite light but beautifully balanced. Ethereal. Wonderfully clean. Proves that Cornas can be worth waiting for (see this pummelling of Cornas ). (JR)

Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 1999-2011, Robert Parker, Dec 1992

The 1990 Cornas is outstanding. The color is an opaque black/purple, and the nose offers up rich, ripe aromas of black fruits, licorice, and spices. Super-concentrated, with a full-bodied, highly extracted, mouthfilling taste, this example of Cornas possesses moderate tannins, adequate acidity, and a smashingly long finish. It is also relatively refined for a Cornas, displaying no signs of the rustic tannins or funky, earthy smells many Cornas can possess. Although it can be drunk now, I would recommend waiting at least 3-4 years. Enjoy it over the next 12-15 years. The scholarly looking August Clape, one of the passionate guardians of the tradition of high class, ageworthy Cornas, has a problem. Everyone wants his wine. He now wonders whether the obscurity he endured during the seventies is preferable to his current international popularity. Importers: Kermit Lynch Imports, Berkeley, CA and a Christopher Cannan Selection, Europvin - various importers.
