Tasted blind. Herbal, distinctive nose. Just a little bit raw on the palate. Slightly rustic tannins but a good effort. (JR)

Silky, correct nose with a bit of oak on it. I do wonder whether a half-accurate taster, tasting it blind, wouldn't criticise it for the obvious oakiness. Still lots of tannin. I suspect you could find more pleasure per penny in the lower reaches of the 2005s. (JR)
Very dark crimson. Lively and fresh on the nose. Very, very ripe and round – almost California in texture! But then there’s something slightly bitter on the finish. Trying too hard? Almost St-Émilion drying tannin structure. Sour. (JR)

Ch. Léoville Barton is a Second Growth Saint-Julien estate, one of the three famous Léoville estates (along with Léoville Poyferré and Léoville Las Cases). Owned by the Barton family (along with Ch. Langoa Barton), it produces classically structured Claret that ages beautifully.
