Note di degustazione
Just as it was when it was first released, the 1996 Barolo Brunate is a bit delicate and fleeting for the year, with less structure than most wines. The aromatics are beginning to show the first signs of tertiary complexity. I would prefer to drink it sooner rather than later given its mid-weight structure.

The nose recalls Pinot Noir, with sensations of sweet ripe fruit and wet earth on the complex nose. A bit simpler than the 2001, with a soft and round palate and flavors of rich, ripe red fruit. Good length and follow through, although with a shorter finish and less persistence than some of the other wines in this tasting. Still appears to be very young.
The 1996 Barolo Brunate is backward, tannic, and in need of 3-4 years of cellaring, after which it should merit an outstanding score. It reveals a saturated dark ruby color in addition to a complex bouquet of dried herbs, smoke, minerals, and black fruits. Dense, chewy, and powerful, this big yet backward 1996 requires discipline. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2018. Importer: Empson, USA, Alexandria, VA; tel. (703) 684-0900
