Marcarini's 2004 Barolo Brunate has aged well, but it hasn't really blossomed into a truly special wine, as so many Barolos from this vintage have. If opened now, the 2004 needs a few hours of air for the tannins to soften. The lifted, slightly fleeting, ethereal finish is classic La Serra.

A sweet welcoming plump plum nose. Delightfully bright damson and cranberry fruit and citrus zest. Lots of energy and a dry spicy finish. Bracing tannins. Seems almost ready to drink! (TC)
La Morra, aged in botti 24 months. Pale and bricky red. Bright. A little bit spirity on the nose, some spice and liquorice and a bit tough on the palate right now but with good fruit depth which may win out in the end. (JH)
Soaring aromatics emerge from the estate's 2004 Barolo Brunate. Menthol, dark cherries, spices, new leather and licorice are all to be found in this generous, layered Barolo, Sweet, ripe tannins provide a lovely bookend to this rich, very classic Barolo from the Brunate vineyard. Still somewhat closed, it is likely to require at least a few years of bottle age.
