Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2025-2040, Neal Martin, Feb 2026

It was a pleasure to taste the 1969 Chambertin Grand Cru, since the bottles at the vertical in 2022 were faulty. This shows what I missed. It has an open-knit bouquet with mellow, yet quite intense brambly red fruit. Not complex per se, yet very harmonious. The palate has a lovely balance that makes this very alluring. Fine weight, again very harmonious, it veers towards darker fruit mixed with tobacco at the finish, which feels reassuringly long with no signs of dryness. Superb.

The 1969 Chambertin Grand Cru was sadly showing some madeirisation on the nose. Shame, as there appeared to be some decent fruit. The palate is bitter on the entry, toffee-ish, slight madierised with a dry and bitter finish. There are certainly better bottles out there than this. Tasted at the Rousseau Chambertin vertical at La Vienne.
