Brilliant yellow color. Musky aromas of ginger, roasted nuts and honey. Wonderfully large-scaled, round and ripe, conveying a powerful sense of solidity. Tactile, sweet and extremely complex, with honeyed soil tones currently dominating stone fruit and mineral flavors. Finishes dry and classic, with outstanding breadth. Today this seems fresher and fruitier than the 2004 Laville Haut-Brion.
(51% sauvignon blanc and 49% semillon) Pale color with a faint green tinge. Deep, brooding aromas of pit fruits, ginger, and beeswax. Huge, silky and voluptuous yet at the same time lively and delineated, with a penetrating exotic spice character. This boasts extraordinary depth of fruit, density of texture and persistence on the aftertaste. While this shows more obvious sauvignon blanc character than Laville Haut-Brion, the gras from the semillon is also quite spectacular. A monumental white, extremely dense white Graves in the making, and a wine that I look forward to following into the bottle.
