Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2022-2030, Eric Guido, Vinous, Apr 2022

The 2000 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Vigneto Alto TB is dark and inward with exotic brown spices, dark wood tones, dusty black currants and balsam herbs. This is creamy and opulent, engulfing the palate in textural red and black fruits, along with dark, dark chocolate, that mixes with savory herbs, creating contrasts toward the close. Masses of tobacco, mocha and a bitter twang lasts through the finale, as well as a hint of residual tannins. This is a total pleasure to taste, and still with a bright future ahead of it. In 2000, the fruit went through four months of appassimento , followed by a fermentation that lasted a whopping 55 days. If you can locate one from a well-stored cellar, don’t hesitate.

Dark crimson. Looks and smells much fresher than the 2010! Lovely evolution of this precise, complex wine that finishes very fresh and appetising even though there are clearly some richness and torrefaction notes on the mid palate. Long and complex. Still some fine tannin. (JR)

The 2000 Amarone Classico Vigneto Alto TB reveals another level of intensity altogether, with waves of dark cherries, cocoa and licorice that coat the palate with notable persistence. It offers superb length and terrific expansiveness, even if it doesn't quite have the depth of the 2001 Amarone TB. In 2000 the fruit saw four months of drying. Fermentation lasted 55 days. A blend of 75% Corvina and Corvinone, 20% Rondinella and 5% Molinara, it spent 30 months in 12 and 25- hectoliter Slavonian and French oak barrels.

Tommaso Bussola’s wines have received a good deal of critical acclaim over the last few years, and with good reason. These are remarkable wines of the highest level. The estate produces two lines of wines. In theory the BG wines are more traditional in spirit while the TB wines are meant to be more modern. In reality the main difference comes down to vineyard selection, as the estate’s best fruit is reserved for the TB range. Importer: The Rare Wine Co., Sonoma, CA; tel. (707) 996-4484
