Nice weight. A robust wine without heaviness. This is a mouth-watering, energetic wine that washes through the palate easily. Dark fruit touched by rose cream and violet. An earthy, focused and savoury palate with a long saline finish and a kiss of spice. (ECB)

(13.2% alcohol): Saturated bright dark red. Lovely perfumed lift to the musky aromas of black raspberry, flint, earth, white pepper and violet. Juicy and taut, almost like a 2011 in its peppery coolness, lower alcohol and inner-mouth tension. Finishes with suave, fine-grained tannins and lovely peppery persistence. Ultimately a bit sweeter and more pliant than the Loess bottling. This cobblestone-rich vineyard planted at an elevation of 950 feet tends to ripen late.
Slightly more supple and mid-weight, the 2012 Syrah Forgotten Hills offers up plenty of black and blue fruits, underbrush, spice and peppery nuances to go with a medium to full-bodied, fresh and nicely textured profile on the palate. Aged in older French oak, it will drink nicely through 2022. Tel: (509) 525-1514; www.waterswinery.com
