Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2018-2038, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Dec 2018

Medium garnet colored, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan Vineyard leaps from the glass with bold notes of crushed black cherries with raspberry sparks over a core of blackcurrant cordial, chocolate box, licorice and Chinese five spice with hints of iron ore and tilled black soil. Full-bodied, rich and super concentrated, the palate delivers layer upon layer of red and black fruit preserves flavors, framed by lovely finely grained tannins and great freshness, finishing long and minerally.

(13.9% alcohol; 2 tons per acre): Good dark red. A bit darker on the nose than the 2000, showing noteworthy complexity to the aromas of plum, graphite and truffle. Wonderfully creamy flavors of redcurrant, spices and flowers are framed by vibrant acidity. The lovely aromatic finish shows a broad, firm dusting of tannins, a captivating light touch and excellent length and lift. This is ultimately a bit more developed and expressive on the nose than the 2000 but has the energy to hold well.

Full red-ruby. Fragrant, nuanced nose combines redcurrant, raspberry, plum, tobacco, mocha and baking spices. Sweet and velvety but with succulent acids giving the wine terrific vinosity. Wonderfully sweet, structured and long, and highly aromatic on the aftertaste. The extra time in barrel has burned off some of the wine's baby fat and revealed its spine of acids and tannins. If the extra year of barrel aging can be said to mimic the effect of several years of bottle aging, the Hundred Acre wine from the clay-rich Kayli Morgan Vineyard should prove to be long-lived.
