Dark red-ruby. Crushed currant, mocha, graphite and licorice on the nose, plus a whiff of nutty oak. Juicier and firmer than the merlot; more dominated by its spine today and still a touch reduced. But there's plenty of sweetness to the plum and chocolate flavors. Finishes with firm, dusty tannins and a note of fresh herbs. Give this at least a few years in the cellar to absorb some of its tannins.

The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon contains 10% Merlot and smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot aged for 20 months in 48% new oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it gives up an enticing nose of balsam wood, Asian spices, incense, leather, violets, and assorted black fruits. In the glass it opens to reveal an opulent, layered Cabernet that exhibits both power and elegance. This lengthy, already complex wine will continue to blossom for several more years and drink well through 2023. The new releases from Pepper Bridge continue their tradition of excellence. As usual there are two varietal wines blended from the Pepper Bridge and Seven Hills vineyards, two vineyard designates, and a Reserve which is a selection of the best lots from the two estate vineyards.
