Bright dark red with ruby tones. Aromas and flavors of plum, red cherry, raspberry and licorice are complicated by menthol and herbs. Pliant, fine-grained and slightly medicinal on the palate, conveying excellent intensity and sound acidity. Finishes with dusty but refined tannins and attractive floral lift but also a drying hint of greenness. I'd like to revisit this very young wine in two or three years. (15.2% alcohol)

A blend of 62% Sangiovese, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah, the 2015 Saggi offers up attractive aromas of sweet cherries, balsamic reduction, dried herbs and burning embers. On the palate, it's full-bodied, rich and layered, with a lavish attack and a juicy core of fruit, concluding with a firm, quite assertively extracted and chewy finish. I suspect this may be carrying too much tannin for its own good, though it was clearly crafted from fine raw materials.
Crème de cassis, ripe black cherries, licorice, and toasty oak all emerge from the 2015 Saggi Red Wine, which is a blend of 62% Sangiovese, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Syrah. With an inky color, full-bodied richness, fine, polished tannin and a great finish, it's another terrific wine from this estate that's going to evolve beautifully for 10-15 years. Another estate that’s been on a roll lately is Alan Shoup’s Long Shadow Vintners, with the wines made/managed by the incredibly talented Gilles Nicault.
