The 2013 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru feels a little pinched on the nose compared to the more expressive 2012: touches of brambly red fruit, briary and a pressed iris flowers. The palate is better than the nose with sappy red berry fruit, light in terms of grip, quite “solid” in the mouth with cranberry and raspberry towards the nicely structured, if slightly abrupt finish. Fine. Tasted at the Gouges retrospective at La Cabotte.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers felt a little reduced on the nose -- though that is common with infant Gouges. At the moment it compromises the wine's definition, which is a pity as there is attractive red cherry and redcurrant fruit waiting to surface. That will be addressed with bottle age. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, some chewiness that will dissipate with time and good depth. It feels a little chunky and uncouth towards the finish although it does improve and gain more cohesion in the glass. Time should meliorate this wine, so afford it 3-4 years in bottle. Tasted September 2016.
Sweetly toasted aroma with a touch of struck-match reduction. Underneath that is lovely juicy dark fruit and firm, smooth tannins. Flavourful and long but needs time. (JH)
Medium red. Very ripe aromas of strawberry and mocha complicated by a leesy nuance. Superripe, dense and sweet in the mouth, with blackberry and violet flavors complemented by spices and saline minerality. This is quite creamy for a wine that has just 12.2% alcohol today (chaptalized from 11.7%) as well as strong acidity. Finishes with rich, building tannins and persistent sweetness. Perhaps less classic Nuits than the Clos des Porrets Saint-Georges, but I'm not complaining.
