Note di degustazione
Grange needs little introduction; an iconic fine wine, and Australia’s most famous. The 2019 vintage has just 3% Cabernet Sauvignon to complement the Shiraz, with the fruit from the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Coonawarra and Clare Valley, aged in 100% new American hogshead for 19 months. The resulting wine is astounding. A complex nose entices with scented notes of spice, tobacco, liquorice, hoisin, earth and tar, beneath which is a massive weight of fruit. A mighty wine that will need team, with an immense tannic framework, but there’s also a vibrancy here, with a juicy bite of acidity that keeps things fresh. Another outstanding showing from Penfolds.

Cassis-liqueur nose. Really fresh palate entry and, actually, a little richer and more seductive than the 2018. My teeth feel as though they have been doused in magic liquid. Really full of (very slightly salty) life. (JR)
First time on the Place for this knockout iconic wine. Expect layers upon layers of fragrant plum, raspberry, black cherry, sandalwood, red liqourice, raspberry leaf, cola, sandalwood, pomegranate, climbing slowly but surely through the palate. Intense and poised, so good, hard to resist, will cellar for decades if you can wait that long. Peter Gago winemaker, Tom King director. 100% new American oak for ageing.
Intense, concentrated, powerful, beautifully precise and poised, flicking its brilliance one step at a time. Liqourice and dark mint chocolate, this need time to unroll, so I suggest plenty of time in a carafe to reveal its stunning depths. Poised and intense, with tannins that are expertly handled, fully in control. Peter Gago chief winemaker.
