Another very quiet nose with a nod to ripe citrus fruits follows onto a subdued palate with sweet fruits but more pink grapefruit than peaches and apricots and a long, fresh finish. I hope that this will open up a little as it will make a commendable contrast to some of the more overtly honeyed wines.

The 2010 Guiraud is a little closed on the nose like the 2010 Climens and demands a lot of coaxing from the glass. Eventually it reveals scents of dried honey, fig and ginger but they feel muted at the moment. The palate is much better and more expressive with tangy marmalade and quince notes, good depth and fine tension. It is just a case of waiting for the nose to open because the palate really shows the potential here. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.
Medium lemon-gold colored, the 2010 Guiraud explodes from the glass with baked pineapple, lemon tart and apple pie scents plus suggestions of acacia honey, jasmine tea, musk perfume and marzipan. The palate doesn’t disappoint either, exuding bold tropical flavors with a lively line of freshness and a long, perfumed finish.
