Pride's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve comes mainly from vines taken as cuttings from Bella Oaks and planted in 1980 on AXR rootstock. While suffering from phylloxera, the resulting wine is something special, a big, rich, velvety effort infused with the essence of cassis and black cherries. Full-bodied and densely concentrated, it remains fresh and lively though the long, lingering finish.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is slightly more dense and concentrated, and as with the Reserve Claret, needs plenty of air to show at its best. Ripe red and black currants, spicy oak, smoked tobacco, and hints of graphite all define this medium to full-bodied, nicely layered Cabernet Sauvignon, which has plenty of mid-palate depth as well as velvety tannins. It has charm today but will benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and have 20-25 years of overall longevity.
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a classic Pride wine. Readers will have to cellar it for a few years, as the tannins are formidable. Graphite, black cherry, licorice, incense, dried herbs and lavender all saturate the palace. Broad and ample, with tons of structure, the 2021 has a lot to offer.
