2019 Favia Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville

Erickson makes some of the greatest wines from the Coombsville appellation, and his 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville is a great example of the quality he's able to achieve. Darker currants, blue fruits, tobacco, lead pencil, and violets notes all define the bouquet, and I always find a certain Saint-Julien-like quality from this appellation, which is present here. Full-bodied, with a great mid-palate, some chocolaty oak, and velvety tannins, this is another rich yet powerful Cabernet Sauvignon that will benefit from just short term-cellaring and cruise for two decades in cold cellars.

From Coombsville, one of the fresher areas of Napa, with fog influence, packed full of black fruits, more punchy and concentrated than the Cerro Sur from the same estate. Expect dark fruits and layers of liqourice and graphite, together with a restrained and slighly chalky feel to the tannins. Grippy, freshly-grated slate texture with a refreshing hit on the finish, hangs on in there delivering waves of flavour. This will age for a good decade or more. Inky dark fruit, plum, spice, licorice, menthol and crushed berries saturate the palate. The 2019 is one of the very finest wines I have ever tasted from Andy Erickson and Annie Favia. Don't miss it.
