Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2020-2037, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jul 2020

The 2007 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is drinking well today, offering up a rich and complex bouquet of cassis and cherries mingled with forest floor, dark chocolate and warm spices. Full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, it's open and expressive, built around velvety and largely melted tannins, but it doesn't have the depth and concentration of the 1999 tasted alongside it, nor the purity of fruit and structural elegance of the 2017.

From '96 onwards it has included a quarter of Mazoyères for structure. (He makes another Mazoyères separately from another parcel.) Less whole bunch, just a quarter. Scented polished nose. Very fine and concentrated but with this great sheen. Great balance, very confident. (JR)

Full ruby-red color. Black fruits, game and licorice on the nose, with a whiff of violet. Fatter, suppler and sweeter than the foregoing premier crus, in a more gentle, charming style. This seems a bit more evolved than the Lavaux and perhaps suited for drinking before that wine. But this is still a sizable wine with plenty of ripe tannins. Dugat considers Charmes to be a relatively delicate cru and thus vinifies mostly destemmed fruit.

Tasted at the Domaine. A gorgeous Charmes-Chambertin, this has a lovely stony, minerally nose. What I wrote down at the time is: “gravestones in an English country cemetery on a cold December morning.” The palate is showing great fruit intensity, wonderful precision and blackberry leaf and raspberry. Fine, precise tannins, supple mouthfeel with cranberry and wild strawberry towards the mineral-driven finish. Edgy, tense and brilliant. Jan 2010. www.roberparker.com
