Note di degustazione
Good medium red. Riper on the nose than the Arborina, showing a hint of raisin to the red fruit, tobacco and musky earth aromas. Plump and sweet but a bit chunky too, with a medicinal cherry flavor offering moderate clarity and cut. Finishes with slightly drying, granular, building tannins and modest sweetness. Seems a bit youthfully disjointed today. Perhaps the fruit here was less consistently ripe than that of the Arborina.

The 2009 Barolo Gattera is an expressive and contemplative wine that requires a few stern swirls of the glass. It’s slow to open, but once it does, it delivers a steady progression of dark fruit, blue flower, balsam notes, herbs and black licorice. This is a lively wine that glides over the palate effortlessly with silky sheen. It is my favorite wine in this group. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2028. Various American Importers, including: T. Veglio's 2009 Barolo Gattera emerges from the glass with layers of plush, dark fruit. Rich and enveloping, the 2009 is another big, concentrated wine. The struggle towards full phenolic ripeness in this south-facing site is evident in tannins that lack their customary finesse. Dark fruit, menthol, wild flowers of all sorts and new leather are some of the many aromas and flavors that round out the Gattera.
