Good full red. Slightly musky, nicely ripe scents of red berries, cinnamon, dried flowers, menthol and underbrush. At once creamy-sweet and lively on the palate, with harmonious acidity and lovely floral lift to the red fruit and spice flavors. A seamless, pliant grand cru with hints of orange zest and wild herbs adding verve and interest. Firmly tannic but not at all dry, this lingers impressively without any impression of weight. A lovely suave, tangy, mineral style from a south-facing site in En Orveaux that can suffer in the hotter years.

(Bouchard owns 0. 45 hectare in En Orveaux, whose white, south-facing soil suffers from drought in hot years like 2003, 2005 and 2009; no new oak): Saturated deep red. Expressive aromas of plum, redcurrant and smoky oak, accented by mint, menthol and spices. Plush and silky in the mouth, even voluptuous, with an almost chocolatey sweetness leavened by saline, spicy minerality. Conveys an impression of big volume without excessive weight. The tannins are serious but dusty and fine-grained.

Bouchard Père & Fils is one of Burgundy’s oldest and most established wine producers. Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, it is the largest vineyard owner in the Côte d’Or with 130 hectares of vines.
