The 2008 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Porrets Saint-Georges 1er Cru bursts from the glass with wild strawberry, blood orange and crushed stone. Full of tension and energy on the palate, as previous bottles have shown in the past, this 2008 is aimed squarely at satisfying the senses rather than imparting much intellectual stimulus. And why not? It's just a lovely bottle to crack open sooner, not later. Tasted from a private bottle at home.

The 2008 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets Saint-Georges has turned into a delightful Burgundy. The bouquet has lightened up in recent years, offering raspberry preserve, crushed strawberry and candied orange peel. There is an openness here perhaps imparted by the fact that the entire crop was de-stemmed this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied, tensile from the start with perfect acidity. It is not the most complex or profound Clos des Porrets that I have encountered from Gouges - it is a wine that targets deliciousness over longevity or intellect. And it does it in accomplished fashion. Drink this now and over the next 15 years. Tasted November 2016.
This was the only wine that had been decanted. Bright mid ruby red. Pretty funky on the nose! Pretty rigid structure; difficult to extract the fruit. An austere wine for the moment with a very drying finish. Hard work! (JR)
