Good dark red. Musky but reticent aromas of raspberry, mocha, game and sweet balsamic cedary underbrush. Plump and plush but with a nicely restrained sweetness and a saline complexity to its flavors of dried fruits, dried flowers and dried herbs. A bit less fresh than the Bonnes-Mares, showing less retention of fruit. Possesses some power but finishes with a bit of alcoholic warmth.

The 2002 Chambertin Clos de Beze from Bouchard has a slightly meaty, almost hickory-tinged bouquet that suggests just a touch of brettanomyces here. The palate is medium-bodied with moderate complexity, a little lighter than its peers with an austere and reserved finish that never quite delivers that knockout punch. This is a little too conservative for its own good.

Medium-deep red. Highly complex, musky nose combines ripe strawberry, iron, minerals, espresso and mocha. Ripe, concentrated and a bit reduced; thick, broad and large-scaled, with a compelling silkiness of texture. Wonderfully sweet, mouthfilling flavors of roasted strawberry, minerals and soil. Finishes with suave tannins, outstanding length and strong structure and grip.

Crushed and very spicy black, intensely pinot fruit aromas blend into intense, sweet, dusty, relatively round and elegant flavors that display plenty of ripe soil and mineral nuances, superb density and outstanding finishing complexity. This is most impressive as the finish goes on and on. In short, this is extremely classy juice that offers outstanding potential.
