2005 Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur Clos de Vougeot Musigni Grand Cru

Good deep ruby-red. Black fruits, redcurrant, smoke, minerals and nuts on the complex, soil-driven nose. Voluminous, silky and round, with the impression of soil character carrying through in the mouth; complicating notes of game and leather. A very rich and satisfying wine with a long, broad finish featuring dusty tannins. More noteworthy for its sheer size than for its cut and precision. "Drink this now or over the next 30 years," says Gros.

Full ruby-red. Black cherry, minerals, violet and a whiff of smoked meat on the nose. Sappy, concentrated and densely packed; in a drier, more masculine style than the Echezeaux, even a bit youthfully austere (Gros says this is very closed following the recent racking). Imploded, very primary flavors of black raspberry and bitter chocolate show limited sweetness today but good aromatic persistence on the firmly tannic finish. Very hard to taste at present.
