Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2020-2030, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Sep 2020

The 2015 Pinot Noir Coastview Vineyard is in a beautiful spot right now. Ample and expansive, with real presence, the 2015 is a marvelously complete wine that is still taking shape in bottle. Holding it for another few years won't be an issue at all. Succulent dark cherry, plum, espresso, licorice and lavender are all kicked up a few notches. The 2015 is powerful, ample and creamy, which is likely a combination of the vintage and a lower percentage of whole clusters (55%) than is used today.

The 2015 Pinot Noir Coastview Vineyard is another very pretty and aromatic wine from Big Basin. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, mint and white pepper are all nicely lifted. The tannins are just a touch aggressive. Hopefully bottle age will help smooth out some of those slightly angular contours, as the 2015 offers terrific persistence as well as potential. To be sure, the 2015 has developed very nicely since I tasted it last year.

Another terrific 2015, the 2015 Pinot Noir Coastview’s deep ruby/purple tinged color is followed by classic notes of black cherries, dried herbs, earth and spice-cabinet. With medium-bodied richness, bright acidity, present, chewy tannin, and plenty of length, give it a few years to come together and enjoy bottles through 2030.

Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2017-2022, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Aug 2017

The 2015 Pinot Noir Coastview Vineyard is an attractive wine, but it possesses less depth, complexity and pedigree than that other 2015 Pinots in the lineup. Dried cherry, sweet herb, licorice and dried flowers are nicely woven together in an attractive, mid-weight Pinot Noir from Big Basin that is likely to offer its best drinking over the near and medium term. The 2015 was done with about 55% whole clusters.
