While the 2015 Pinot Noir Wendling Vineyard doesn’t have the Block E designation found on the 2016, it’s the same block, which is more red soils and one of the steepest parts of the vineyard. Rose petals, raspberries, exotic flowers, and wild strawberry notes flow to a medium-bodied, juicy, elegant, utterly seamless 2015 that will continue evolving gracefully for another decade. This is another estate making a distinctly vibrant, fresh style of wine that’s going to appeal to the Burgundy lovers out there. It’s an incredibly educational tasting going through all these different single vineyards from Ted Lemon and these are interesting, singular wines. As a whole, the 2015s shows slightly more oomph compared to the 2016s, yet both vintages have vibrant acidity and balanced profiles. As expected, quantities are slightly up in 2016.

The 2015 Pinot Noir Wendling Vineyard is just as captivating from bottle as it was from barrel. Sweet, perfumed and very pretty, the 2015 speaks to grace above all else. The flavors are bright and precise, with hints of chalk, white pepper and mint that add a soaring upper register. I would prefer to give the 2015 at least another few years in bottle to help the tannins soften. This is a superb first release from Ted Lemon's new Wendling Vineyard in Anderson Valley.

The 2015 Pinot Noir Wendling Vineyard emerges from a set of five parcels on red gravel soils in Anderson Valley. Bright, vibrant and pungent, with striking purity in its fruit, the 2015 possesses tons of aromatic intensity and tons of red/purplish fruits. Even with all of the fruit, there is plenty of underlying structure and tannin to ensure many years of fine drinking. The purity of the fruit is striking. This is a fabulous debut from Ted Lemon and Littorai. This parcel has been biodynamically farmed from the beginning.
