Bright medium red. Sexy but subdued aromas of blueberry and violet. Smooth and fine-grained but also with terrific energy to the flavors of dark fruits, violet and crushed stone. Lovely inner-mouth tension and lift here. Finishes with outstanding mineral thrust and savory persistence. Fourrier's Griottes-Chambertin is often overshadowed by his Clos Saint-Jacques in the early going, but not this year.

Healthy medium red, less dark than the Clos Saint-Jacques. Vibrant aromas of raspberry, blueberry, crushed stone, violet, rose, menthol and mint. Larger-scaled than the Clos Saint-Jacques but more angular and less sweet today, with its floral element less apparent on the palate. Here the combination of minerality and rather serious tannins cuts off the wine's fruit and gives the finish a slight youthful toughness. This may get a later bottling. I look forward to tasting this inscrutable wine next year in its finished form.
The 2013 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru has a glorious bouquet with dark cherries, blueberry and stony aromas - taciturn at first, but soaring from the glass after a couple of minutes. There is a lovely wilted-violet scent here. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, wonderful tension and an "H.D." finish that sticks in your memory. Utterly divine.
