Medium red. Initially conveyed a lovely perfumed character to the aromas of raspberry, mocha and minerals but went into a shell in the glass. Fat and sweet in the mouth but showing less lift than the Latricières in the early going. Finishes savory and dry. This very concentrated, seriously tannic wine will require patience.

The 2014 Mazoyères Chambertin Grand Cru is the one new release from Jean-Marie Fourrier's negociant arm. The nose is more complex than the Latricières-Chambertin with quite a strong marine influence coming through. The palate is medium-bodied, a little chunky in the mouth, quite firm and for me, missing the finesse of some of the other Mazoyères-Chambertin 2014s that I have tried. Not bad, but there will be better to come.
2014 was the first vintage. A little slacker than the more southerly grands crus under this label – same supplier as Latricières. (JR)
